Skippers Smokehouse provides a nice outdoor venue complete with trees and a view of the night sky in Tampa, FL. Skippers was featured on an episode of Man v. Food and is known for their barbecue menu, Gator Chili, and Blackened Grouper Reuben Sandwich which was also featured on the Travel Channel.  As the story was told….. thirty years ago, 3 Air Force buddies who met while stationed in Alaska decided to buy this Tampa landmark. It was the opposite of the frozen tundra in which they had served. In the years since, Skipper's has grown from a small smokehouse takeout operation with a casual Sunday jam, to a full-service restaurant and much-loved purveyor of world-class music.

John K Band did a nice February tour of Florida venues and pleased the Tampa faithful who had just watched long time local favorite Uncle John’s Band perform a short set. UJB plays almost every Thursday night at Skipper’s for Grateful Dead night and will be playing after John K.s former band Dark Star Orchestra in downtown Saint Petersburg on Saturday Feb 13 at Ringside Café. There are plenty of opportunities to hear some live “good ole Grateful Dead” tunes in the Tampa/St Pete. area. There are also plenty of opportunities to see another live performance of the John K. Band, John K with Phil and Friends, and John’s other band The Golden Gate Wingmen featuring Jeff Chimenti (Dead and Company, Ratdog, etc.), Jay Lane (Ratdog), and Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green)

Check out more dates here and keep the music and spirit of the Grateful Dead alive…The Music NEVER Stopped!
