Walking into Stubb’s Wednesday night, you could tell it was going to be a good night to watch Fitz and the Tantrums.  It’s not often that the place is packed before the opening act but this crowd was ready to welcome back Austin native Max Frost. The show, a benefit concert for the Waller Creek Conservancy, brought in a diverse crowd and made for a good vibe.

Max Frost and his band Jane Ellen Bryant (from Austin), Vocals and Guitar, Habbert Cheeks (from NYC), Drums, and Jamie Pitrelli (from NYC), Bass and Keys were happy to be there.  With a set that included some old school funk, some R&B and his signature vibe.  The set included hits from his Low High Low album such as Nice and Slow and Glow Long and at least one, Paranoia, from his upcoming album.  Max wrapped up his set with the hit single that set his career on it’s current trajectory, White Lies.  The crowd sang along and danced along the rails like it was the closing number of the night.  But Fitz and the Tantrums was still to come.

The crew at Stubb’s is good and changeover was quick.  It seemed just long enough to get a drink at the bar and that was it.  Those at the rail were there to stay and happy with the water security handed out. When it was time to get started Fitz and the Tantrums, came out hard with their song Get Away off their 2013 album More Than Just A Dream.  Fitz and co-lead singer Noelle Skaggs came to get down.  Calling out to the crown and hopping off onto the bass cabinets in the pit just to get closer to the crowd.  It was hard to tell who was having more fun, the band or the crowd.  They night kept going with just the right mix of songs off their albums, Pickin’ Up The Pieces and More Than Just A Dream.  Fitz and the crowd gave Noelle some love during L.O.V. for Noelle’s birthday.  They wrapped it up with their awesomely upbeat song, The Walker.  The crowd, packed deep,seemed to move along as one as Fitz and Noelle left it all out on the stage.  A great set overall and the crowd thought so too.  For those lucky to have an ACL pass, they will get another chance to have a dance party on the final Sunday of the second weekend of ACL.
