The Dump Truck pulled into Austin on Friday after playing Dallas the night before and they came ready to jam!  Just a week after their epic Wanee Festival all Zepplin set, Tony Hall (guitar, bass), Ivan Neville (keys), Ian Neville (guitar), Nikki Glaspie (beats) and Nick Daniels (bass) brought their funk and did not disappoint. 

Opening for the band that night was Henry + The Invisibles, the one-man funk band, and The Peterson Brothers.  Though a short set, Henry built the energy in the room up loop by loop. Henry knew how to get the crowd into the groove and set the stage for the great night to come.

Henry was followed by The Peterson Brothers.  From Bastrop, TX, the teenage duo brought their soul-infused blues sound to the stage.  Supported by drummer Chris Mead, Glenn Jr. on guitar and his younger brother Alex on bass had the crowd dancing with their flawless delivery.  If you haven’t seen either Henry + The Invisibles or The Peterson Brothers you are in for a treat if you happen to catch them out at the festivals later this year.

Dumpstaphunk took the stage around 11:30 opening with their classic, Everybody Want Sum. Tony seemed ready from the jump.  His high energy was felt by the crowd and he seemed to notice.  The Groovline Horns joined Dumpstaphunk for a few songs throughout the set starting with Water.  That rolled right into Blueswave then Betty Davis’ “If I’m In Luck I Just Might Get Picked Up”.  Nikki killed it!  The rest of the evening the crowd heard songs off Dirty Word as well as old school favorites like Lt. Dan.  By far, the best part of the night was when they went off script for their close. 

Running up against a hard stop, they chose to close it down with their cover of Led Zepplin’s Immigrant Song.  Within a couple of bars, hand-horns held high, the crowd rocked on.  When the song ended, cheers erupted.  The crowd chanted, “One more song!, One more song!”  Sadly, due to the time, no encore was had. The lights came up and the crowd buzzed as security ushered everyone out the door.  The Dump Truck loaded up and rolled on to Colorado to play at Dazed on The Green the following day.
