As the cold December air blew into the Chicagoland region, SCI came through to close out their tour. The Roots Run Deep tour was a schedule of sold out performances showing the East Coast some cheesy SCI love along with a few Midwest cities. The band rocked out attendees in 14 cities in just 16 days. Their three night run at the Aragon ballroom was a display of how truly gripping these musicians are when they reunite and come together. Going off and on tour for the past few years these guys have taken rewarding breaks to work and explore solo ventures. Seeing the band together on stage is always a sensational event. Saturday evening at the tour closer, the show was filled with sensational light displays, acrobatic performances and of course the gripping jam melodies that this band is known for.

Stepping onto the stage the final night in the windy city and on their tour. A high sense of accomplishment and enthusiasm was felt as the members stepped out and tuned their instruments. Excitement in the air that the crowds give off at the start of the show. The band began with the song "Johnny Cash." As the music began the crowd waved into motion. The beginning songs were like a tease to what would be an amazing set. Included in the first set was,"Rollover," "Sometimes a River," also "Black and White." Lights shimmering, visualizations that hooked your eyes to the backdrop of the musicians and the musicians themselves getting down and enthused to share and show off their skills. True vibrations of happiness came off the strings, keys and beats each band member created. Collaborating such different music tastes is always the most drawing aspect. How there can be a bluegrass melody that sharply mixes in with down tempo tones. A skill many bands cannot pull off yet SCI makes it seem effortless. Soaring through their first set, keeping the crowd hooked with the set closer,"Smile." The audience was getting wild and waiting for another round of music that was a treat for many who have waited to see them back around to the Midwest.

Coming back with a roaring applause and audience members who were ready to groove. Beginning second set with a gripping drums solo by Michael Travis into,"Rivertrance." Rolling into a relay of sounds and melodies. You could tell the show was a combination of the band members for the mixture of music that was made. The diversity of the crowd was also a sign of how expanded their fan base has become since exploring side projects. There was an older crowd who have followed the band since its formation along with those who strike more of a fancy to the string movements of Kang and Nershi; along with those who have a taste for the beats and percussions explores by Travis and Hann. Each element of the band is key and as the performance flowed through the second set there was a true appreciation for every faze and different rhythms that flowed from the band. The set was winding as the crowd got louder. Excitement in the air as the set concluded with,"Thanks a Bunch." Left on the edge of their dancing shoes for an encore the crowd anxiously awaiting for another few numbers.

With the band coming out for double encores to a thrilled audience to see what the closing would bring; there was a high that was felt through the crowd. As the band shared a few words of gratitude to not only the fans who make the music such a thrill but to all those who have made touring happen for them. Closing with the songs in the first encore with, "Lands End" and, "Stuff." One of the attractive elements to seeing this band live is the visual acrobatics that come out and whip around above the band on ribbons flouting overhead. They twirl themselves in these little cocoons and then when the music hits the right moment they let go. It's a beautiful addition the live performance of the band. This scene also appeared in the encore though they had been out during several parts of the performance. As the crowd kept cheering for more, the band concluded with a second encore of,"Restless Wind."
