Kicking off the weekend with an energy surge of powerful instrumentals and improvisational beats, The New Deal wowed the Chicago scene with their style. Traveling and reaching out to audiences in combining electric genres, this band really brought a fabulous display of electronic based jams. Playing at Park West, a smaller venue held the sold out show for this band. The Chicagoans were pumped. Walking into the joint, a disco ball overlooking the crowd and a loaded dance floor preparing to rage to the music. Entering to the mixes of DJ Rehka, straight from the get-go the music was flowing.. This band truly thrives on the audience energy and movement, from when they first stepped onto the stage till the last notes played. These fellas appreciation to the populous was seen and noted as the music came.

The expanding fan base for these Canadian musicians was seen at this show. Drawing attention from the rave, jam and rock likings, these guys have charisma in their presence on stage. Liveliness in their playing right from the start, the band busted into the beats of, 'Receiver.' Straight from the get go the motion of the crowd showed the appeal this band has to audiences. Dancing broke out with a funky, dramatic effect from the improvisation used throughout the concert. Hands wailing and bodies moving the set was moving along. Playing the song 'Glide,' though a lot of the set was pure electronic jams. Terrific harmony in the sharp instrumentals incorporated into the show. The first songs seemed to float smoothly into the crowd, enticing with the collaboration of sounds. Finalizing the starting set the guys burst into the beats of 'G-Nome.' After an enthralling start to the show the members of the crowd were hooked and awaiting the return of these musicians to continue the dance party they started.

After set break the three piece band succeeded to move the audience with more music. It was crazy to see the rapid motion in these three. All syncing perfectly to one another, coming together intermixing the instruments perfectly. Darren Shearer on the drums and beat box, Jamie Shields on the keyboards and Dan Kurtz adding on the bass, these three longtime band members work precisely together to create their music. The second set was a combination of rapid, insane jams and crazy instrumental sounds forming songs. DJ Rehka introduced the set, leading to the song, ' Gone Gone Gone.' Re energizing to the crowd after the break which brought upon sheer movement in the venue. Continuing throughout the set with electro fussed music, the rhythms flowed into the song, 'Back to the Middle.' The joint was bumping with beats and enchanting flow as the show drifted by. The set concluded with the continuation of house beats finalized by a known song' Home, ' a perfect ending to the consistent melodies busting off the stage. A roar of applause brought the guys back out for an encore. 'VL Tone' was the icing on the cake to this performance.

This band brought a great, thriving energy to the night life of Chicago. Touring through January to sold out shows, you can certainly see from their performance why that is. A good time to be had and energetic, along with engaging personalities in the band connecting to their audiences. Releasing a live album from a show in Toronto soon, you could get a feel of the livetronica path which this band seeks. Definitely a gig to catch when they roam to your neck of the woods.
