It’s a wonderful night for Footlight……Footlight Ranch an historic music venue located in Wellsville, PA looks to provide local music opportunities for artists and fans alike. Located in an idyllic country setting, 30 minutes southwest of Harrisburg, PA, Footlight Ranch is a music venue like no other in the region. Live from Footlight Stage events will provide fans an opportunity to experience top level local and regional talent all while lounging in the pool. Yeah…..that’s right….in the POOL! With the stage conveniently located beside the pool and covered deck areas, the venue boasts plenty of table seating as well as open grass areas to lounge on blankets.
“This area is so rich in musical heritage, it only seemed natural to focus on it,” says Chad Holler, partner in Footlight Management LLC. At its earliest conception, Footlight Ranch provided youth camps that focused on the performing arts and evolved into live music performances and even dinner theatre at one point. Built in 1966, Footlight has seen its fair share of changes and the latest could be the most exciting.
Friday October 5th will feature a bounty of local bluegrass talent. Tuckahoe Ridge takes the stage to welcome Fall with special guests Jerry Rigged and Mountain Ride. Tuckahoe Ridge is a 5 piece acoustic string band that has become a favorite for many in the Cumberland Valley. With a base in the bluegrass style Tuckahoe Ridge travels through time to play tunes from old time to new grass all while keeping the feeling of the jam. More info on this show can be found @ www.facebook.com/Footlight.Ranch.
There will also be opportunities for local high school and amateur acts to get some stage time. “With the recent cutbacks in music and art curriculums, these programs are in need of supplemental fundraising and we feel Footlight Ranch can help. A battle of the (high school) bands so to speak,” says Holler.
Footlight Ranch has already hosted Buck, a trio of bluegrass musicians most commonly associated with their group American Hollar, headed up by front man Mike Males. Mike states, “Footlight Ranch, wow, what a venue! The stage obviously was designed for music because the sound on, and FROM it is fantastic. Our guys had a blast playing the Ranch and can’t wait to do it again.” Mike also runs My Rural Radio, an independent internet radio that operates on NO BUDGET. All of the design and programming of the station is done on a volunteer basis. Check out www.myruralradio for opportunities to donate and show your support of local live music. Plans are in the works for a monthly “Live from Footlight Stage” featuring original music by artists from My Rural Radio.
