Harrisburg, PA (May 7th, 2009) - Award-winning chanteuse and internationally acclaimed Nashville songwriter Tori Sparks will return to the Harrisburg area this month. She will play The First Capital Dispensing Company in York on May 17th (9:30pm), The Stage on Herr at HMAC in Harrisburg on May 18th (8pm), and a live radio performance on WMRF in Lewistown on May 19th (8:30am). Rhyne McCormick will open or co-bill all three dates.
Tori Sparks played 2009's Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg and was a special guest at the American MusicFest in 2008. Called "a knockout" by the Village Voice, her dynamic live show is equal parts soulful singing and zany stand-up-style humor. Tori's acclaimed third album, The Scorpion in the Story, was co-produced with indie rock veteran David Henry (R.E.M., Ben Folds, Josh Rouse, Widespread Panic, Cowboy Junkies). The album was released on Glass Mountain Records last year. It broke the Top 100 on the Americana Radio Charts, and is currently at # 19 and climbing on the European Americana Chart. Songs from the new album has been featured on Paste Magazine's "Songs for Haiti" Earthquake Relief Effort, on CMJ.com's, "New Music Download," and on Microsoft's Windows Media Player homepage. Tori's website was recently featured by the Los Angeles Times tech blog.
Rhyne McCormick has played practically every venue in Pennsylvania, and gathered a strong local following through his simple, honest approach to songwriting and performing. He says on his website: "If you come to one my shows and you like what you hear, you can invite me back to your house. I'll sing in your kitchen and hang with you and your friends." After spending years in the Air Force, Rhyne has since released three independent albums and is currently in the studio working on a fourth, which will be released later this summer. A live concert DVD, Live at Capital Theatre, was released in 2009.
